I love Zulily

I love Zulily! Today they have a Phil and Teds Stroller for $300 off! I buy Maddy's shoes from Zulily or from Totsy. The shoes are better quality than Target or Walmart and they are cheaper! Both sites offer clothes for kids and for moms, toys, etc. Currently Zulily is having a christmas in July sale!

Slow Cooker Lasagna

I made a slow cooker lasagna for dinner tonight and it was amazing (if I do say so myself)! I thought I would share the recipe because it is super easy and was great!

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 jar of tomato pasta sauce
  • 1/2 pkg of no boil lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese
  • sprinkling of parmesan cheese
  • 1 jar of Alfredo pasta sauce
Spray cooking spray in the slow cooker. Brown the ground beef. Put 1/3 of the pasta sauce on the bottom of the slow cooker and mix the rest of the tomato sauce into the ground beef. Cover with lasagna noodles. Then add the alfredo sauce, the mozz cheese, and the ground beef. Repeat 2 more times. Top with Parmesan cheese.
Cook  on low for 4 hours!

Bryton Pick Flosser Review

I was recently sent a Bryton Pick to try out. It is a product designed for flossing. I was a little put off at first because I thought it would be a hard metal surface, but it is a very flexible type of metal. It takes a few uses to get used to how to use it correctly. After a few uses, I love it!

Pros: Reusable! You can clean it with alcohol or with hot water. Each Pick is good for 30 days! Much better for the environment because of the lack of waste.

Cons: The only con I really have is that I prefer the string. But for people who like using toothpicks this would be a great product.

You can purchase the Bryton Pick at Amazon, CVS, Meijer, Pathmark, drugstore.com, and Rite Aid.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Great New T-Shirt Company (Review)

T-Shirt Printing recently sent me one of their T-shirts to review. Please take a look at the picture and ignore the pajamas and bad hair day.

When it arrived, I loved the monkey on the shirt. My husband also thought it was cute. I put it on and was surprised by how soft the shirt was. Most tshirts are not super soft, but this one was! I decided to wash it twice so I could see how the logo would wear. It looks brand new after 2 washes. The silk screen printing was done very well and looks very high quality.

T-Shirt Printing offers customization of  tshirts for whatever your needs are.  They offer shirts for men, kids, women, and work uniforms. They also have a huge selection of hoodies. You can place an order as small as 12 or as large as 100,000. Their prices are super competitive. Even though they are based out of Great Britain, I received my shirt less than a week after being contacted.

I am really impressed with the quality of the shirt and with the company. Many times clothes are made cheaply and it tells. You can tell T-Shirt Printing really took the time to make a great product!

FTC Disclosure: I received this product in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% mine.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

What should you buy in August?

I am thinking I will turn this into a monthly blog post. Every month, there are some things that you should buy for the entire next year.

If you anticipate needing a new computer soon, then August is the perfect time for buying a computer. With all the back to school shopping deals, you can get some great computers for great prices!

Another thing you should buy during the month of August is flip flops! Many stores are clearing out their flip flops to make room for fall shoes. I grab some old navy ones for only $1.25! This also goes the same for swimsuits!

For the kiddos, you should buy outdoor toys! Maddy is in need of some outdoor toys so we will definitely be stocking up! We also need some patio furniture, which will be on clearance next month!

But the best thing to buy during August is school supplies. I just bought note cards for a penny! Pens, pencils, and notebooks are also on great sales right now! Stock up for the entire year.

7 Things to Buy in August

Submitted by: Tip Hero  07/27/2011 2:07 PM

With summer drawing to a close, there's more to take advantage of other than the warm weather. During the time when back-to-school sales run rampant and the seasons begin to change, take a look at some of the deals you should easily find out there:

Computers

August is great time to snag a deal on a computer while they are on sale for college-goers. Luckily, you don't have to be a college-goer to take advantage of a deal if you find one. Also, if you have your eye on a certain model, be sure to check the manufacturer's website for information on when a new model will be released. That's when you'll see prices drop even lower for the older model.

Flip Flops

Toward the end of the summer, demand for these comfy summer shoes goes down a bit. Stock up in August when flip flops are on clearance.

Swimsuits

Take advantage of end of the summer sales while you can! You can usually find deals on bathing suits toward the end of the summer. Plan ahead for next summer (as long as you plan on staying around the same size).

Linens and Storage Containers

With back-to-school sales all around, you'll see a lot of sales for college dorm necessities like linens and storage containers. August is a good time to stock up if need be.

Outdoor Toys and Camping Equipment

Stores will be looking to get rid of this bulky stuff to make room for more fall-appropriate merchandise.

Patio Furniture

Sales began after Independence Day, but in August, you'll see patio furniture marked down even further. Kiplinger says you may even see deals for 50% off of outdoor furniture toward the end of summer. This could be a great opportunity for you if you have somewhere to store the furniture for more use next summer.

School and Office Supplies

Back-to-school sales don't have to just benefit those who are going back to school. Shop those sales if you need any kind of office equipment or supplies.

Perfect Photo Presents

Have you tried Shutterfly yet? They have some great photo items that would make great presents. Plus their website is so simple to use. This Spring, I had a problem with the delivery of a photo book I made for Grandma. As soon as I contacted Shutterfly, they shipped another one out express mail. Their customer service was wonderful. I will definitely continue using them!
I absolutely love their Photo Books. I have made them for Christmas presents for the grandparents as well as memory books of Madalyn's First Year. They are super easy to make. You upload your photos and Shutterfly will insert them into a layout. If you would like to do more of the designing then you can choose to do the custom path. You can choose all types of backgrounds. For the holiday ones, I choose Christmas backgrounds and for the birthday ones I chose baby girl background! Currently, they are running a special of 30% off of Photo Books!
Another great product Shutterfly offers is Birth Announcements. We used them when Maddy was born. It was so easy, it took me less than 10 minutes to make them. The hardest part was choosing which photo to use. Look at the zebra print one below. It is so adorable! This one starts at just $1.03 an announcement! They also have save the dates, moving announcements, and wedding announcements.
Can you believe Christmas is just 5 short months away? You know what that means! Time to start thinking about Christmas Cards. I love Shutterfly's Christmas card selection and I am already thinking of which ones to send out this year! Again, there cards only take a few minutes to make and look amazing! They start at just 32 cents! I think we are going to get this one!
So check Shutterfly out for all your photo needs!

And I'm back to posting the deals I find. VistaPrint is offering 140 free address labels. These are also great for gift tags and for tags on your children's clothing! I love Vistaprint. There prices are wonderful and there quality is top notch. You do have to pay shipping and handling, but it is still an amazing deal. Vistaprint is an awesome website.

Vacation

We just got back from a wonderful 4 days in Orlando. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort. Both my husband and I agree that this was the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The pool is in the top 10 of the best pools in the US by TripAdvisor. Priceline has had some great deals on this hotel. We paid only $77 a night, which is AMAZING considering this is a 4.5 star hotel.

When we first arrived we were greeted by free champagne. Also, in the lobby they have two birds. This was one of Maddy's favorite parts. The only down fall of this hotel was the prices for food. If it wouldn't have been so expensive we would have stayed on the resort for the entire time. But my pina colada was $16 and the breakfast was $23. Those were my only complaints for this hotel.  My husband always complains on vacation about the hotel beds. This was the first one that he was wanting to take the bed and the pillows home with us.
The resort also offers a lake with watersports. We tried to do paddleboating, but with a wiggly one year old we ended up going back to the dock pretty quickly. We didn't get a chance to explore all the resort had to offer. But we will definitely be going back.

Are you looking to make a little bit of money this summer?

So we all could use a little spare change. Currently, I am saving my spare change to get the Keurig Platinum Coffee Maker! I am going to list two sites where I am able to make money. Now I make a little bit extra (think $50-$75 a month). You will not be able to quit your job, but this is nice money for a dinner out or something you really want.

The first is Opinion Outpost. This is a survey website. It is completely free to join and the rewards are pretty easy. You can change in your rewards for a check, for amazon gift cards, for restaurant.com, or donate to charity. I have been a member of this site for years and highly recommend it.

The second is Swag Bucks. This website took me a little time to get into it. But you earn points for doing tasks, buying Groupon or other daily deal sites, taking polls, and many other activities. It is easy to earn and you can turn your points into HUNDREDS of different rewards.

Freebie List

It is time once again for a list of freebies!

Mid-Year Financial Checkup

The other day on the news they were speaking about the mid-year financial checkup and how to check and see if you are going to meet your goals. This is a great idea. I thought I would give some tips on how to prepare yourself now for tax time next year.

We all know that tax time is going to come. The only two things certain in life is death and taxes. So here are a few tips.

1. Save all of your medical expense receipts. I didn't do this last year and ended up way under-guessing how much we had spent on medical expenses. Your prescription co-pays are tax deductible.

2. Donate to charity and save the receipt. Every few months I do a house cleaning and then schedule a pick up with American Kidney Foundation. They will come to our door and pick up the stuff we no longer need. Plus, they give you a receipt for your taxes.

3. Look at IRA's and 401K's for retirement. They have tax benefits. I'm not sure all about them but I know funding your retirement is IMPORTANT. So look into it. Save now or risk a bad future.

4. Look at setting up a 529 for your child. I recently set one up with Upromise. They have a great program and certain expenses are tax deductible.

Now for some other incredibly important financial tips.
- Get a budget and get one now. Every one of us needs a budget. There is a wonderful website You need a budget, which will help you set up one. Each and every one of us could put at least a small amount into savings if we would only realize where we are spending.
- Get debt under control. As Suze Orman says, live below your means.

Those are just some tips, I am in no way a financial expert, but those are the guidelines we do at our house and it has helped a lot. For some more great tips, check out Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman!

I am not sure if they limit tickets, so I would go ahead and request them now in order to avoid them selling out. I think we are going to visit a submarine museum!!!

What are you making for the 4th?

Today is the 4th of July. What are you cooking?
For lunch, we are having hot dogs, baked beans, and mac and cheese. Then we are off to fireworks tonight!!!
Here is my recipe for homemade beans!!!

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces dry white beans
  • 1 pound ham hocks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard

Directions

  1. In a large pot over high heat, combine the beans with water to cover and bring to a boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat but let sit for 1 hour. Drain beans and place them in a slow cooker. Add the ham hocks, onion, brown sugar, maple syrup, salt and water.
  2. Mix well, cover and cook on high setting for 4 to 5 hours, stirring occasionally. During the final hour of cooking, add the ketchup and mustard, remove the ham from the hocks and discard the hocks. Mix well and serve.
